Indonesia participates in Jeju Fire Festival

JEJU,- Indonesia is the only Southeast Asian country participating in the Jeong Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival in the Jeju province, South Korea on March 3-6, 2016.

This year is the first time Indonesia participates in the festival, Director of Jeju Tourism Promotion Department, Kim Young Mi, said here Thursday.

“We highly appreciate Indonesia’s participation in the festival. This event is an important forum to learn more about the culture of South Korea, especially in Jeju Island,” Kim said.

There are five countries besides South Korea participating in the festival that showcase various performances of fire, including the United States, Germany, Japan, and Indonesia, Kim mentioned.

“We are very pleased that Indonesia can join this festival and hope to participate again next year,” Kim said, adding that the festival has been conducted since 1997.

Meanwhile, Assistant Deputy for Asia Pacific Market Development, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, Vincent Jemadu, stated that South Korea is one of the countries being targeted in improving foreign tourist visits to the country.

In Jeong Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival, the ministry is bringing nine dancers who also demonstrate unique Indonesian costumes.
