To initiate the robot project, Yamaha has sent staff to Silicon Valley in May 2014 and officially opened the laboratory in August.
“We want to have the potential to make all vehicles to be autonomous, not only a motorcycle,” said Saijou. “And an autonomous robot that riding a motorcycle is the most challenging and incredible concept.”
Motobot itself only in the concept stage. At speeds below 3 mph, it was still unstable. The team that worked on the project itself only amounted to five people.
The first version was exhibited in Tokyo operated by remote control. The next version is claimed to be 100 percent autonomous, controlled by GPS and sensors. (lal)
